I collected these bones two years ago at Sasquatch in Eastern Washington. We jumped the fence and wherever you saw white were piles and piles of bones. I'm still in the process of converting a whole gaggle of them to wearable state - but right now this is what I have.

I use wire, phone cords, plastic attachments, leather, chains, gold string, crab shells, gold paint and bones.

So I make these arm bands...

1) I saw Sidecar Tommy (the DJ from Beats Antique) open last Saturday for Bassnectar. It was at Showbox at the Market in Downtown Seattle and I give it 37 stars. It was unbelievable. I saw the whole Beats Antique crew last time I saw Bassnectar at Neumos (sweatbox) and geeeze. You don't get more gypsy carnival than this.

2) I believe the belly dancer in this video is Rachel Brice...and she's coming to Seattle on May 20th. I'm just saying. We should go.

I truly madly deeply dig thrift store shopping. And after many hours of perusing dirty aisles in claustrophobic dust havens, I’ve decided to write down my thrift shopping style. Try this out next time you’re at Value Village….

1. Priority. When I walk into a store, I have a definite pattern for which sections I’ll hit up first. First thing I do is go to the shoe and purse section, and then I’ll go to the section for which I’ve decided to focus on (such as coats or “retro,” which is also a highly trafficked area). I figure that shoes and purses a) are the easiest to navigate and b) they are some of the most desired content in the thrift store. So when I go in with my girls, I go to those sections first.

2. Focus. When you walk into a thrift store, you have to have an idea for what you’re looking for (whether it’s a tutu, cowboy boots or a Carmen SanDiego red coat); otherwise you’ll lose hope and not know where to start. This also helps to keep spending down – otherwise I’d snatch everything up.

3. Color. Know your color palette…most stores organize clothing in terms of colors. If you look great in green, gravitate towards that section. Nasty in peach? Then don’t even bother.

4. Glazed eye. This may seem strange…but I find that there’s a lot to cover when you walk into a warehouse filled with gems and junk. If you unfocus your eyes and sort of glaze over the racks, you’ll naturally gravitate towards items that are worth looking at. I know this seems odd, and it might take a couple tries to get used to, but try it out. I tend to be drawn to patterns…so when I glaze my eyes over, I am drawn to the most interesting patterns and the highest quality of fabrics. It’s a skill you develop…and if you’ll notice, the most seasoned thrift store hunters whisk over the store and are able to cover the floor much more strategically.

A lamp made out of a shotgun. For one dollar. I was driving down highway 12 on my way to western Minnesota, and we saw this thrift sale and I found this lamp. I have to re-wire it and find a new shade ( <--- that's not it...it's a work in progress that will look exactly like that.) I'm just saying. It's going to be spectacular.

Something worth mentioning...I also got a set of pink lawn flamingos, complete with legs and matching vintage box from 1978 for $5. I was absolutely vicious.

Last night, I witnessed pure gold. It hasn't been too long since I last saw Atmosphere...maybe a year. Maybe somewhat longer. Regardless, it went down actually rather ridiculously. My ticket was sent to Wisconsin and my parents had to overnight-it. A honcho I was with bought a scalped ticket for one hundred bones. Both he and I thought it was absolutely worth it.

When Slug asked us to clap, you better believe the entire sold-out venue clapped. Whomp. I had to put my tall-boys between my feet - but absolutely everyone clapped. That may have been what was so remarkable...the crowd participation was out of control. The guy in front of me had a tee-shirt on that read "As American as Herpes and hotdogs." I agree. We were eating out of their hands.

At this point I might add that Ant was able to smoke cigarettes indoors. It was an amazing thing to watch. I haven't seen that happen since I was in Wisconsin for Christmas. Must be a mid-west-coast kind of thing. Slug started out in a black hooded sweatshirt and Twin Cities baseball cap, but pretty soon he was stripped down to his gray "Midwest" tee-shirt, which gradually became a darker and darker shade of gray. First heather, then charcoal. First just a smidge, then a ring nearly down to his belly-button. Absolutely splendid. Boyyee was feeling it.

But I didn't quite get it. He kept saying, "Are you sick of our old shit yet? You don't want to hear more, do you?" But I honestly thought the show was rather skimpy on much from the past. A tour named the "When god loves ugly tour" should have many many tracks from said album. It was more like an on-slaught of fresh blend. Ohhh but you should have heard them play "Song about a Friend" live. I've never witnessed such a thing. man oh man. They went straight into the encore. They didn't even try to tease us with it. We earned it.
